Teaching

I teach communication research and human communication by turning abstract ideas into things students can try for themselves: writing a survey item, spotting a confound, coding a message, or computing a standard deviation by hand.

In my labs, each concept moves from a short explanation to a worked example, then to small-group practice and a quick check before we leave the room. I want students to see research methods as a way of asking better questions about the media and relationships in their own lives, not just as formulas to memorize.

I also try to make the course predictable and easy to navigate. Weekly reminders, review materials before each exam, and specific feedback on every exercise help students know where they stand and what to do next.
